Plantar Fasciitis: Causes, Symptoms, and Effective Relief

Plantar Fascitis

Plantar fasciitis (PF) is like having a persistent ache in the bottom of the foot, often near the heel. It’s a very common condition and can be really painful, especially in the morning or after sitting for a while.

What triggers PF:

Having tight calf muscles or high arches

Overdoing activities like running or standing for long hours

Wearing shoes that doesn’t support your feet well

What brings in relief:

Rolling a tennis ball or ice bottle under the foot also helps to alleviate the pain.

In PF, although the pain is in the foot, the cause may lie in the calf. Calf muscles (Gastrocnemius and Soleus) form a tendon named Tendoachilles and inserts in the heel bone(Calcaneum). Gently stretching the calf muscle helps in pain relief.

Gently stretch the bottom of the foot (fascia)

Footwear checkout: The foot wear matters, wear shoes with good cushioning and support

Rest and Ice: Give your foot a break and ice it to reduce pain and swelling

Medical yoga plays a definite role in gently stretching the calf and foot muscles.
