Joint inflammation: Triggers and prevention strategies
Joint inflammation, also known as arthritis, occurs when the tissues surrounding your joints become swollen and painful. This can be acute(short-term) or chronic(long-term), affecting daily life.
What is joint inflammation?
Joint inflammation happens when the immune system triggers an inflammatory reponse, causing swelling, pain and stiffness in the joints. Symptoms include: pain, swelling, redness, warmth and reduced mobility in the affected joints.
What increases joint inflammation?
· Poor diet: consuming high amounts of processed foods, sugar and saturated fats can trigger inflammation.
· Lack of exercise: sedentary lifestyle can lead to joint stiffness and inflammation.
· Stress: chronic stress can increase inflammatory responses
· Injury or overuse: trauma or repetitive strain can cause joint inflammation
· Autoimmune conditions: conditions like Rheumatoid arthritis can lead to chronic inflammation.
What are ways to prevent joint inflammation?
· Eat an anti-inflammatory diet: focus on Omega-3 rich food, fruits, vegetables and grains.
· Stay active: Regular exercise like walking or swimming can help maintain joint mobility
· Manage stress: Practice stress-reducing techniques like meditation or deep breathing
· Maintain a healthy weight: excess weight puts added stress on joints
· Get enough sleep: Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep to help regulate inflammation.
