ROPE & BELT THERAPY FOR Neck pain

Cervical Spondylosis is a degenerative disorder of cervical intervertebral joints and intervertebral disc and bodies of the vertebrae. The degeneration happens as cervical spine bears weight of head. The process of degeneration is accelerated due to prolonged hours of work with head and neck in one position. Lack of proper exercise leads to weakness of muscles of shoulder girdle. This leads to neck muscles stiffness, thoracic hump, rib cage compression, scapular fixation, decreased ROM of shoulder joint, laxity of abdominal muscles etc. The net effect is degeneration of articular cartilage of IV joints, causing painful movements, osteophytes formation, which may put pressure on spinal nerve in intervertebral foramen. How does Rope and belt therapy work on Cervical spine

How does Rope & belt therapy work on Cervical spine

Distraction in cervical spine

Distraction in cervical spine

Distraction in cervical spine

By cervical traction the space between the cervical vertebras is increased reducing the

compressive load on intervertebral joints. Prolonged hours of with fixed shoulder girdle position puts strain on neck muscles. Correction and awareness of shoulder girdle leads to distraction effect on cervical spine.By distraction the degeneration will be minimized

reducing pain and stiffness in the neck area.

Rib-cage awareness

Distraction in cervical spine

Distraction in cervical spine

Rib cage is depressed due to lack of awareness. Sufficient strength and endurance is needed

in pectoralis major and anterior abdominal wall muscles to keep it elevated for long hours

with rest once a while. The awareness with strength and endurance created by various

positions in RBT will keep the rib cage elevated for long time which in turn improves the

breathing pattern with deep breathing.

Scapular mobilization

Distraction in cervical spine

Shoulder position awareness

Both scapulae are elevated by upper fibers of trapezius. Prolonged work at desktop/laptop

may lead to adaptive shortening of these fibers leading to fixation of scapulae. It may lead

to trapezius tendinitis. A gentle stretch given by rope reduces the pain and soreness in the

region. Modified yogic postures are used to promote scapulae retraction. Range of motion

of scapulae is increased by using ropes.

Shoulder position awareness

Strengthening of selected muscles

Shoulder position awareness

Shoulder joint remain flexed, adducted and medially rotated in our day to today activities of various types which disturbs proper posi tioningof shoulder girdle. Cervical traction in RBTcorrects this positioning of shoulder girdle.

Modified yogic postures lead to extension of both shoulder joints. Rope jacket position provides extension of shoulders.

Strengthening of selected muscles

Strengthening of selected muscles

Many muscles are involved to maintain the correct upright sitting posture. These muscles need to have sufficient strength and endurance to fulfil the demand. Strengthening of erector spinae in thracocervical region, anterior abdominal wall muscles, arm and forearm muscles and pectoralis muscle helps in restoration of shoulder girdle to correct the posture and healthy functioning of cervical spine.
